Advanced clinical practitioner capabilities
The British National Paediatric Oncology and Haematology ACP is a speciality group within the CCLG. The group is made up of ACPs from the four nations of the United Kingdom. It was quickly established within the group that roles and responsibilities were diverse and there was no standard document by which to record and assess clinical competence, capability and ongoing professional development.
The Advanced Clinical Practitioner Paediatric Oncology & Haematology Capability Document has been produced following a review of the Framework of Competencies for Level 3 Training Special Study Module in Paediatric Oncology (Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, 2010) and the General Practice Advanced Nurse Practitioner Competencies (Royal College of General Practitioners, 2015).

The Cancer Aftercare Nurses (CANUK) group are pleased to announce the updated career and education framework and competencies V2.0. Career and Education Framework for Children and Young People (CYP) Cancer Nursing
The RCN / CCLG ‘Career and Education Framework for Children and Young People Cancer Nursing’ has been extensively updated in 2022 by a working party from across the RCN / CCLG nursing Groups. The framework sets out competencies for knowledge and skills across a range of topic areas in CYP cancer care relevant to career stages. This highlights the professional development required for nurses at all levels of practice aspiring to build or maintain a career in cancer nursing.
The framework is intended for use by nurses who provide care to children and young people (CYP) with cancer, or cancer-like disease, in paediatric services, or services that are unbound by age which may encounter CYP with cancer. It includes CYP cancer nursing in multiple settings including principal treatment centres, shared care units, community care and generalist settings such as emergency departments and wards where CYP with cancer may occasionally be located for surgery or to manage oncology capacity overflow (outliers).
