Cancer Clinical Research Groups bring the research community together to develop practice-changing research, with a particular focus on clinical research including clinical trials. These groups are thought leaders that set and drive the UK research agenda.
These groups were formerly part of the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI). Following the closure of the NCRI, CCLG took over hosting two Cancer Clinical Research Groups (CCRGs) - one for children's cancer, and one for teenage and young adult cancer and germ cell tumours. Our groups are part of the UK Collaborative for Cancer Clinical Research Groups, which cover all cancer types.
Children's Cancer Clinical Research Group
This group is chaired by Professor Darren Hargrave. The group sets the direction from clinical research into children's cancer across the UK. The group has disease-specific subgroups which focus on different cancer types, planning and developing clinical trials and other clinical research. We are in the process of reviewing the strategy for this group.
Teenage and Young Adult Cancer and Germ Cell Tumours Clinical Research Group
This group is chaired by Dr Sara Stoneham. The group works to develop new clinical research projects focused on teenage and young adult cancers across the UK, as well as clinical trials for germ cell tumours, which affect people of all ages but are particularly prevalent in teenagers and young adults. The group's current strategy includes a focus on lived experience engagement in research, research challenges including access to clinical trials, and early-onset bowel cancer.
