UK childhood cancer experts gather for annual meeting

Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) hosts its annual Winter Meeting next week (April 4-5), bringing together experts from across the childhood cancer community.

The UK's leading children's cancer meeting for professionals returns for a two-day conference of essential updates on best practice excellence and cutting-edge research.

The meeting, held at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham in collaboration with the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Children’s Group, provides a unique opportunity for medical and healthcare professionals to come together and share news, insights and discoveries in children’s cancer.

This year’s ‘new-look’ programme features important in-depth discovery sessions on brain tumours, leukaemia and solid tumours, as well as updates from the NHS and talks on health and wellbeing topics.

Delegates will hear from leading children’s cancer experts, including this year’s keynote speaker, Professor Kathy Pritchard-Jones. As one of the UK’s foremost experts on childhood cancer and current President of International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), Professor Pritchard-Jones will be talking about her vision for the future during her lecture, titled ‘Cure for more and care for all – UK and global reflections on SIOP’S vision’.

This year’s meeting also sees the introduction of our Member Awards, which will celebrate and recognise the outstanding contributions of individual members to the work of CCLG and the professional community. In addition, our Research Showcase & Awards will highlight advances in clinical science and patient care and the crucial, innovative work being done to continue to drive improvements.

Ashley Ball-Gamble, CEO CCLG, said:

“This year's meeting builds on feedback from our membership about the content and format of the meeting, and the best parts of last year's virtual conference, as well as the clear desire to return to networking and engagement in person.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming members and delegates to what promises to be a stimulating and insightful two days, and delighted to be hosting our inaugural awards dinner in what is CCLG’s 45th anniversary year.

“It seems fitting that we are able to launch these awards at this year’s meeting, to both celebrate the incredible work being done to drive improvements in childhood cancer treatment and care, and to also reflect on just how far we’ve come over the last four and a half decades.”
