Indeg was initially diagnosed with a virus following months of visits to the GP due to regular vomiting. Eventually, she was admitted to our local general hospital, where a CT scan revealed the tumour. She was urgently transferred to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.
Everything seemed to happen so fast, and within 24 hours, she had a drain inserted to release the build-up of fluid in her brain. This was followed by hours of major brain surgery to remove the tumour just days after the initial diagnosis. Indeg was very resistant to care and had a phobia of needles, making this an extremely distressing and difficult time. Afterwards, Indeg and I had to move to Manchester (almost a three-hour drive away from home) for her to undergo 33 sessions of proton radiotherapy. She was randomised (with our consent) to take part in a clinical trial and then received 16 chemotherapy sessions at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.
Indeg has been incredibly strong and determined throughout her illness and treatment. She completed chemotherapy in June 2021 and has been having regular scans every four months. We are grateful that her scans have been clear so far. Indeg's diagnosis and life afterwards have been far from normal for her and our family (including her parents and three sisters).
