The Awards, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Birmingham, celebrated the outstanding contribution of members to the work of CCLG and children and young people with cancer, acknowledging and rewarding teams and individuals for best practice excellence.

CCLG Member Awards
Nominated by their fellow CCLG members, Member Award winners were chosen based on key criteria. These included measuring the impact and tangible benefits of their work, and whether they have demonstrated CCLG values, such as professionalism, compassion and commitment, as well as criteria specific to the individual award itself.
A wide breadth of categories included the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, which recognises those who have played a significant part within the paediatric oncology community for over 30 years, and the ‘Johann Visser Award for Outstanding Contribution’, for those who have gone above and beyond to support the work and services of CCLG and its members.
Professor Meriel Jenney and Professor Brenda Gibson were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Dr Dave Hobin and Dr James Nicholson won the Johann Visser Award.
Speaking on the Member Awards, Ashley Ball-Gamble, CCLG Chief Executive, said:
It’s always fantastic to celebrate the successes of our members, and particularly special to do so for the first time under our new identity of CCLG: The Children & Young People’s Cancer Association. The sheer number of high-quality nominations and submissions speaks volumes about just how much outstanding work is happening and these awards represent all that is great and good about CCLG. I’d like to say a huge congratulations to our winners, and a thank you to them and all our members, who, through teamwork, innovation and endeavour, and with care and compassion, are helping us to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer and their families, both now and in the future.
CCLG’s Research Awards
Earlier in the day, at its Annual Conference, CCLG showcased the work of some of the brightest minds in children and young people’s cancer research, with its oral and poster presentations. The CCLG Research Awards further recognised the groundbreaking projects supported by CCLG which are helping to break through boundaries and drive progress and change in the treatment and care of young cancer patients.
Categories including the ‘Transforming Care Award’, won by Eloise Neumann, and ‘Innovation and Change Award’, presented to Claire Keeling, and importantly, also included the ‘Early-Career Investigator Award’ for upcoming talent within children’s, teenagers and young adults’ cancer research. The Award, won by Catherine Taylor, highlights CCLG’s commitment to developing the next generation of researchers.
Ashley said of the Research Awards:
Our researchers are leading the way in cutting-edge research studies, helping us move closer to the day where all children and young people with cancer survive their diagnosis and go on to lead long, healthy and independent lives. It’s important to reflect on how far we’ve got to go to achieving this, but also to recognise how far we’ve come and how much progress is being made, so that we can keep moving forward with the belief that we will get there. It’s a privilege to be able to recognise the efforts of those who are helping us to do so.
