How to do a step-up
Step-ups are a great exercise for working out the muscles in your legs, as well as your core muscles. They can also help improve balance and coordination.
- Find a step at a height you're comfortable with - to make the exercise more challenging, you can choose a higher step like a bench or chair, or step up whilst holding weights
- Choose which foot to lead with and place that foot up on the step
- Pushing through your leading foot, lift your other foot onto the step as well
- Step back so that both feet are on the floor, and that completes one step-up!
- Alternate your leading foot so that you exercise both legs evenly
- Keep your back as straight as you can and try to make your movements as smooth as possible
