Information for young people with cancer, and parents of a child or young person with cancer, having a donor (allogeneic) stem cell transplant. Graft versus host disease (GvHD) is a complication of donor (allogeneic) stem cell transplantation (SCT), in which the cells from the stem cell donor (graft) react to the cells in the patient (host).
This factsheet has been written to help you to understand how GvHD may affect you/your child and what possible treatments there are. The factsheet will complement the information given by the nurses and doctors who make up your stem cell transplant (SCT) team. They will be able to give you information specific to you, and will always be very happy to answer any questions you might have.
