An MP is lacing up his running shoes as he prepares to take on the Virgin Money London Marathon to raise funds for Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG).
Mr Nick Fletcher, the Conservative MP for Don Valley, in Doncaster, has chosen to run the event next weekend (October 3) for CCLG after his friend, the Doncaster Council Civic Mayor Cllr Richard Allan Jones, selected CCLG as his chosen charity.
An avid runner for many years, Mr Fletcher said running the London Marathon has been a long-term goal for him to achieve and that he is “delighted to be running to raise money for such a great charity”.
He added: “Receiving a cancer diagnosis at any point in life is terrible and simply unimaginable for a child to endure.
“Therefore, it is a fantastic cause to raise awareness of and raise money for this charity to further their research and support in this area.
“If you would like to support such a fantastic charity, please head over to my Virgin Money Giving page.”
Vicki Brunt, Fundraising Executive – Events and Challenges at CCLG, said: “We are thrilled to have Nick running for us and we really appreciate his, and Mayor Cllr Richard Allan Jones’s, support.
“It will make a huge difference to the research we can fund and to help us shape a world where all children with cancer not only survive, but live happy, healthy and independent lives.
“The London Marathon is an iconic event and having Nick join our 2021 team is wonderful.
“We want to wish him all the best for the day, and we look forward to seeing him at the finish line.”
