We are holding a Central Lines in Children with Cancer - Sandpit Research Event on Friday 7 March 2025 from 11-3pm. It will be held at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations in London. Venue details here.
A sandpit event is a gathering of a group of people from all disciplines and experiences to discuss a problem within a particular subject area. Hosted by CCLG, this event will bring together oncologists, nurses, surgeons, infectious disease specialists, anaesthetists and parents/patients to identify and prioritise research questions around central lines in children with cancer. Central lines might be also be known as Hickman lines, port/portacath, Broviacs or PICC lines. This research area has arisen from the James Lind Alliance priority setting partnership research question "How can experiences of having a Hickman line be improved for children with cancer"? (22). Outputs from the day will help inform a future grant application.
If you are a parent or patient with experience of childhood cancer and a central line, we would very much appreciate your contribution to the event and future research. On the day, we will have short talks from different specialities to set the scene and highlight the evidence gaps. We will work together using the World Cafe methodology with small group rounds to prioritise research questions in this area.
